Thomas Richter has worked all over the world, directing spots for such brands as Toyota, Ikea, Volvo and Sony PlayStation. He is an adept storyteller with much of his work integrating outrageous comedic situations and plot twists. Agencies value his ability to develop concepts and the breadth of his knowledge of film production and post. Richter has won many awards in the United States and abroad for his commercials, including American Advertising Federation, Hugo, ITVA and Andy awards, as well as the John Sayles Award at the Westcliffe Digital Film Festival for his short film, The Call.
Richter was born in Frankfurt, Germany and grew up in a family of filmmakers. He moved to the U.S. in 1993 to attend Art Center College of Design. Upon graduation, he began his professional career, dividing his time between Germany and Los Angeles. He joined Boxer Films in 2005. Richter is the author of The 30-Second Storyteller, a book on commercial directing. He has also conducts seminars on directing at Art Center College of Design.
